2/2 He and the controlled media are slandering the truckers. The same questions arise as in 1989. Will the police attack? Will the government cave? Will truth and love prevail? Are U.S. diplomats in Ottawa out meeting and developing contacts with the protest organizers the way they did with Havel and his colleagues — or are they playing the role of Soviet diplomats, holed up and brooding in their Embassy, and talking to their counterparts in the government about ways to hold back the tide?

Facebook would not let people see this post of mine, so.... 1/1 Czech version follows): The parallels between the truckers’ protests in Canada and the Velvet Revolution in Prague are beginning to get to me. Kde Domov Můj morphs into O Canada, jangling keychains into air horns. Cries of “freedom” on the lips. The protesters are asking their government to sit down in a dialogue, so far in vain. In this video, the organizers are looking like Občanské forum as they calmly place their demands before the government. However, the anxiety they display reminds me of the students who brought their “last will and testament” to me at the U.S. Embassy in 1989. Dialogue? So far Trudeau, the Husák character in this play, is only responding with threats of a massive assault.
