☕️TEA & COFFEE - 📖 STEEPED IN STORIES

Another exciting auction snatch: $1, some of Kafka’s best works that were supposed to be burned upon his death.

Sip slow, read far.

Translation: To all the great mothers around the world and all our great fellow female warriors who are mothers:

Happy Mother’s Day.

Starting at 4 p.m., from the south side of the fourth floor of MDC, I looked out through a palm-sized, honeycomb-shaped metal wire fence on the wall of the court—it has no glass—and it connects to the third floor below, where Yanping once stayed. Through this mesh, I breathed in the fresh air from outside. This is an indoor court, with one wall that has two cracks; below it is the place where Yanping used to be. I saw uneven beams of sunlight reflecting in through the side and falling onto my body.

At that moment, I was listening to the song “Desert Camel” by Zhang Zhang and Luo Luo—“I want to cross this desert to find my true self”—over and over again. I thought about being in the Qingfeng Detention Center, and the Mother’s Days I spent there, thinking about my own mother who is no longer with me, my wife—the great mother you all know as “Seventh Sister-in-law”—and Yanping, a mother who cannot see her son. One by one, I thought of all the great mothers I’ve known, the family and friends who became mothers and were part of the most important moments in my life.

These great Chinese mothers and women are the fundamental source of strength that has carried me to today. As everyone knows, our Whistleblower Movement—our motivation and origin—comes from the memory of June Fourth (Tiananmen Square), and from defending the dignity and grace of China’s mothers and women. It was born out of our duty to repay the gift of life and to protect China’s mothers, to prevent them from becoming more Yang Gailans. The extermination of the Communist Party is a movement driven by that mission.

The Whistleblower Movement is willing to give everything for this cause—it is the source of our struggle and the source of human life: mothers. This most sacred and noble role can only truly be understood by those who are mothers or have been mothers.

Even though I haven’t slept for a single minute since yesterday, in this most important moment of life—yesterday, May 10th, was also my birthday—and now today, Mother’s Day, I feel incredibly moved as I listen to this song. I asked Mei Guo to share this moment and my emotions with you all.

To those of you who are able: please put on headphones and listen to this song—“Desert Camel”—with me, as we search for our true selves. If you are with your mother, hug your mother. If you are with your wife, hug your wife. If you are with your daughter, hug your daughter. Be a great member of the New Federal State of China.

To love and respect the Chinese women we fight for—this is our everything. Just like the song says: walk out of the darkness, and pursue a life of freedom and joy.

I’ll keep playing this song until 8 p.m. New York time tonight. May the fellow warriors who have time listen to it with your “Seventh Brother.”
