It's hard to imagine. Today Ursula von der Leyen is to receive the International #Charlemagne Prize 2025. Yet the EU President of Corruption stands for pretty much

the opposite of what the Charlemagne Prize originally wanted to honor.

No one has ever driven a bigger wedge between the peoples of Europe

& the former idea of European unification than the autocratic,

power-drunk & apparently corrupt Ursula von der Leyen.

I have therefore written an open letter to the Board of Trustees of the

Charlemagne Prize Foundation, which you can read below. I doubt that it

will change the decision of the Board but it will drive up the price

that the media-politico cartel has to pay to keep each other in power:

๐Ÿ“ +++ Open letter from MEP Christine Anderson on the awarding of the Charlemagne Prize 2025 to Ursula von der Leyen. +++

Ladies & Gentlemen,

I strongly protest against the decision to award Ms. Ursula von der Leyen

the International Charlemagne Prize 2025. This honor is in blatant

contradiction to the fundamental values for which this prize was

originally created: European unification through democracy,

transparency, the rule of law & international understanding.

On May 14th, 2025, the General Court of the European Union found that the

European Commission, under Ms. von der Leyen's leadership, had violated

EU law by refusing access to key documents on vaccine procurement. The

focus is on the private text message contact between Ms von der Leyen

& the CEO of the pharmaceutical company #Pfizer - a contact that is at the heart of the so-called โ€œPfizergateโ€ affair.

In addition, the European Public Prosecutor's Office (EPPO) is currently

investigating Ms von der Leyen under criminal law. Among other things,

the focus is on a personally arranged vaccine contract with Pfizer worth

up to 35 billion euros. In addition, a criminal complaint has been

filed by a Belgian citizen, which substantiates the suspicion of

usurpation of office & non-transparent negotiations. These ongoing

proceedings cast considerable doubt on the political integrity of the

Commission President.

Ms. von der Leyen does not stand for a Europe of the citizens, but for a Europe in the service of Big Pharma, Big Bureaucracy & Big Military. Her policies have accelerated the development of the European Union into a regulatory, interventionist superstate. Under her leadership, the EU has moved further away from democratic control & national sovereignty. Treaties worth billions have been negotiated behind closed doors - without parliamentary control, without public accountability, without transparency for those citizens who finance these policies & bear their consequences.

The so-called โ€œGreen Dealโ€ is being questioned in more & more member states. It is increasingly perceived as both a planned economy & an ideological instrument for restructuring the economy & society - with no regard for local social & industrial realities. In foreign & security policy, Ms. von der Leyen has led the EU on a confrontational course, while trends towards more restraint & geopolitical de-escalation can be seen worldwide - including in the USA. The rearmament of this EU, which itself has very limited democratic legitimacy, called for by Ms. von der Leyen is particularly worrying under these conditions.

By awarding Ms. von der Leyen, the Charlemagne Prize Board of Directors is sending a fatal signal: instead of honouring integrity, responsibility & international understanding, it is honoring a politician who has contributed more than almost any other to the alienation between the European peoples & the Brussels institutions - through undemocratic control of citizens, unresolved allegations of corruption & a top-down conformism imposed on the member states.

I therefore urge you to reconsider this decision. The Charlemagne Prize must not become a symbol of a Europe of elites, corporations & technocratic disenfranchisement. It should honor those who represent a Europe of free peoples, diversity & democratic self-determination.

With the most resolute esteem,

Christine Anderson
