So here's what Rand Paul doesn't get. Yes, the CR funds the government (and many of the programs DOGE targeted for cuts) at the same levels as the last Biden budget. This is just to keep government running through September. But that doesn't mean the government has to SPEND that money. Russ Vought (OMB director) has latitude as to what gets spent where, and as long as the funds aren't mandated to be spent by Federal law they don't have to be spent. And if they are mandated by Federal law, the House GOP can introduce a bill to defund that program or mandate. Just zero out the budget. Sen. Paul needs to get off his high horse about the deficit.
