John C. Calhoun was one of America’s greatest political thinkers. The most intriguing intellectually, for sure. Calhoun inspired me to anchor my book, “The Trump Revolution: The Donald’s Creative Destruction Reconstructed”, in his thesis of "... two different modes in which the sense of the [political] community may be taken." The one regards numbers only (a crass numerical majority). The other invokes an entirely different quality or dimension, over and above the 'numbers. It is the concurrent or constitutional majority. I had hoped that Trump had awakened the latter.
